How can we reduce the administrative and cognitive load induced by digitalization
Executive Summary:
We tend to use more and more Apps, for our personal or professional activities. Digitalization of processes in many industries have brought additional administrative and cognitive loads for workers.
This paper will introduce the concept of Hands-free application interaction, using voice to complement manual interactions to improve efficiency of our interaction with Apps.
Technology and general adoption have evolved over the recent months that makes the man machine interaction using voice and natural language quite efficient and intuitive for the App users.
Introduction:
In simple terms, Digitalization is the process of incorporating digital technologies and tools into a number of operations and workflows. It is designed to have a positive impact on work efficiency. Typically, digitalization can affect productivity through: Automation of Repetitive Tasks, Streamlined Processes, Faster Communication, Access to Information, Data Analysis and Insights, Collaboration and File Sharing, Enhanced Customer Service, Inventory and Supply Chain Management, Task Management and Productivity Apps, Reduced Paperwork, Feedback and Performance Monitoring, Training and Development
While digitalization offers numerous opportunities to improve work efficiency, it’s important to note that its implementation must be carefully managed to avoid potential downsides, such as information overload, increased workload, lack of training and support. Additionally, the extent of efficiency gains can vary depending on the organization’s readiness for digital transformation, its capacity to include team members in the deployment, and the effectiveness of its digital strategy.
Voice-activated systems in vehicles, homes, and workplaces can reduce distractions and improve safety by allowing users to control devices and access information without taking their hands off the wheel, tools, or equipment.
They can help users perform tasks more efficiently by quickly retrieving and providing information, setting reminders, and automating routine actions.
Combining voice interaction with other modalities (e.g., touch) create more versatile and intuitive user interfaces.
Voice interfaces and especially voice interaction in natural language can reduce the cognitive load on users, as they do not need to remember complex commands or navigate through menus. This can be particularly helpful in high-stress or high-cognitive-load situations.
Research has shown that voice interaction can enhance user experience by providing a more natural and conversational interaction with technology, leading to increased engagement.
